FG Begins Process to Pay CATA to Non-Academic Staff

The Federal Government has begun processing the payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to non-academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Wednesday shortly after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.
Alausa said the payment process was underway, expressing optimism that the funds would be made available within the next few weeks.
“The payment to non-academic staff is also being processed. We’re hoping that these funds will be made available, hopefully, in the next few weeks,” the minister said.
The development follows the release of CATA covering January to August 2026 for academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
According to Alausa, the payment to academic staff was made in line with the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities agreement, adding that affected institutions were expected to have received notification to commence payment.
The minister described the development as part of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of both academic and non-academic staff in the country’s tertiary institutions.
“This is another indication of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to our academic and non-academic staff. President Bola Tinubu made a commitment to ensuring that the quality and welfare of our staff are prioritised,” Alausa said.
