Miracle Ezechukwu smashed the national record and delivered a standout performance at the MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays, highlighting a day full of speed and history at the New Jos Stadium.
On Day 2 of the meet, Ezechukwu, competing for N-Youth Sports in the Junior women’s 100m semifinals, clocked 11.26 seconds to become the fastest Nigerian woman in 2026. Her time not only set a new MTN CHAMPS U-20 record but also placed her joint fifth on the Nigerian U-20 all-time list.
She defended her title in the final with a 11.42-second run, reinforcing her status as a rising sprint star.
Joining Ezechukwu on the podium were Lucy Nwankwo of Team MTN (11.65s) and Rosemary Nwankwo (11.78s), who both already secured qualification for the World U-20 Championships in the session’s semifinals, running 11.52s and 11.44s respectively.
In the Junior men’s 100m, Emmanuel Akolo of Team MTN surged to victory with a wind-aided 10.63 seconds-the fastest mark of his career under any conditions.
He led a MoC Athletics Academy sweep, with Reuben Destiny (10.74s) and Alvin Onyeama (10.76s) taking silver and bronze.
The senior ranks produced one of the meet’s most competitive showings as Okechukwu Ezeh claimed the men’s 100m in 10.61 seconds, after a personal best of 10.47s in the heats.
On the women’s side, Toheebat Jimoh continued her strong form with a gold-medal performance in a personal best of 12.03s.
Record-Setting 400m Highlights
The 400m events provided dramatic finishes, with Ezekiel Asuquo (Team MTN) dominating the Men’s Senior 400m in a lifetime-best 46.26s, followed by Benjamin Magaji (47.17s PB) and Mfoniso Frank (47.24s PB).
Michael Aniche showcased classic Calabar form, rallying late to win the Junior Men’s 400 in 48.19s (PB).
Faustina Obi claimed the Women’s Senior 400m in 55.40s, narrowly edging Chioma Edeh (55.79s).
Fervent Edet (Team MTN) underscored youth dominance by taking the Youth Boys’ 100m in 11.15s, while Rebecca Enilolobo of Team Beacon Power Services topped the Youth Girls’ 100m.
In the Cadet (U-14) division, Honor Anthony and Attach Boyi won their 100m finals in 14.50s and 13.18s respectively, earning the title of “fastest child” in their categories.
The MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays continue with relay finals and middle-distance showdowns scheduled for the day, promising more high-speed action and record possibilities.
