QuickPR Global Limited—a PR and media consulting firm, has commenced a three-month internship programme aimed at grooming the next generation of public relations and media professionals through practical and hands-on training.
The programme was formally launched during an onboarding session on Tuesday led by the firm Executive Director, Shafihi Abdulrasheed, who welcomed the new interns and walked them through the initiative’s objectives, structure, and expectations.
Speaking at the session, Abdulrasheed said the internship was structured to expose participants to the practical realities of public relations and media practice, rather than mere theory.
“This internship is designed to provide participants with practical exposure to the different aspects of public relations and media practice,” he said.
He explained that the three-month duration would combine structured learning with regular assignments and hands-on activities to help the interns build skills they could apply in real professional settings.
“The programme combines structured learning with regular assignments and practical activities to help interns develop skills that can be applied in professional settings,” he added.
According to him, the programme will run weekly virtual sessions, with occasional physical engagements at selected points during the three months. He said subsequent sessions would feature media and PR experts who would train participants in news writing, feature writing, PR writing, interviewing, event reporting, corporate communication and speech writing.
On the expected outputs, Abdulrasheed disclosed that each intern would be required to produce 50 published news stories, 15 features or opinion pieces, 10 professional interviews, and one complete PR project by the end of the internship.
He said interns would also be allowed to select one or two beats from areas such as politics, education, business, health, environment and technology, to help them build focused expertise in specific fields.
Beyond writing and reporting, the Executive Director said every intern would be attached to a major PR project, which he described as an opportunity for participants to gain practical experience in planning and executing public relations campaigns.
He added that interns were expected to build a personal writing portfolio and participate in a media campaign, noting that successful participants would leave the programme with practical PR experience, published stories, media contacts and hands-on project experience.
The QuickPR also announced plans to reward outstanding interns with awards in categories including Best Feature Writing, Best Supporter and Best PR Project.
Abdulrasheed, however, stressed that attendance, consistency and active participation would be strictly monitored throughout the programme.
“Although the certificate is provided free of charge, participants must meet the required criteria, including maintaining the expected level of attendance, completing assigned tasks and meeting the required submission threshold, to qualify for certification,” he said.
The onboarding session ended with a question-and-answer segment, where participants sought clarification on various aspects of the programme.
