The Kwara State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has denied reports claiming that farmers endorsed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant Omar Bolaji Gambari.
The association rejected the allegation following a publication by Just Event Online TV. AFAN clarified that it issued no endorsement for any political aspirant in the state.
In a statement made available to TheQuickPR, Engr. Olugbenga Ajibola Friday, Public Relations Officer of AFAN Kwara State, described the report as false and misleading. He stressed that AFAN did not authorize any endorsement for Gambari or any other political candidate.
The PRO noted that the group cited in the report is neither recognized nor affiliated with the official farmers’ representation structure in Kwara State.
AFAN clarified that the group referenced in the report lacks the recognized structure and legitimacy required to speak on behalf of farmers across Kwara State.
“AFAN remains the only recognized umbrella body for farmers in Nigeria, operating across the federal, state, and local government levels. We have not endorsed any governorship aspirant or political candidate,” Engr. Ajibola stated.
While rejecting political endorsements, AFAN reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agricultural Agenda. The association also expressed backing for Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s agricultural initiatives in Kwara State.
Engr. Ajibola noted that AFAN remains fully committed to the Renewed Hope vision, particularly in areas relating to agricultural growth and farmers’ welfare.
The AFAN PRO urged members of the public to disregard the misleading publication. He cautioned against attempts to misrepresent farmers’ interests for political purposes.
“Any official position of the association would only be communicated through its duly recognized leadership and official channels,” Engr. Ajibola maintained.
