The newly elected leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Kwara Axis, has called for unity among student leaders and stakeholders following the conclusion of its convention, while also announcing the constitution of a nine-member committee to coordinate its inauguration.
In a press statement made available to The QuickPR on Monday and jointly signed by the Chairman of NANS JCC Kwara Axis, Comrade Soliu Ismail Aloba, and the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Umar Salamatu, the association expressed appreciation to senators, delegates, student leaders, and students across tertiary institutions in Kwara State for their support during the electoral process.
The leadership described the successful conduct of the convention and the emergence of a new executive as a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the students’ movement in the state.
According to the statement, the new administration is committed to delivering on its promises to students through transparent leadership, effective advocacy, inclusiveness, accountability, and improved welfare initiatives.
The association noted that the electioneering process had ended and urged all stakeholders to embrace reconciliation and collaboration in the interest of students across the state.
“The convention has come and gone, and the time has arrived for reconciliation, collaboration, and collective progress. We extend a hand of fellowship to all student leaders, senators, aspirants, and stakeholders, irrespective of their affiliations during the electoral process,” the statement read.
The leadership stressed that building a stronger NANS JCC Kwara Axis would require the collective efforts of all stakeholders and well-meaning student leaders.
As part of efforts to ensure a smooth transition, the association announced the constitution of a nine-member Inauguration Planning Committee to oversee activities leading to the formal inauguration of the new administration.
The committee is chaired by Abimbola Babajide Abdulhameed of Kwara State University, Malete, while AbdulRazaq Naimat Opeyemi of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, will serve as co-chairman. Sheu Zakariyau Olanrewaju of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, was named secretary, while Suleiman Sikirullahi Oluwadamilare of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, will serve as Public Relations Officer.
Other members include Yusuf Mujeeb of Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode; Ogunlana Michael of Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin; Yusuf Muhammed Baba of the University of Ilorin; Suleiman Rukayat of Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi; and Adebisi Blessing Jesutofunmi of Kwara State College of Education, Oro.
The statement said the committee had been mandated to develop a comprehensive inauguration framework, engage stakeholders, coordinate logistics, and ensure a successful inauguration ceremony.
It added that details regarding the inauguration date, venue, programme schedule, and other arrangements would be communicated in due course.
The NANS leadership reiterated its commitment to rebuilding trust, strengthening advocacy, restoring relevance to the students’ movement, and advancing the welfare of students across Kwara State.
