The incumbent Member of the House of Representatives for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Hon. Mukhtar Shagaya, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election conducted today.
Shagaya secured a commanding victory in the direct primaries held across the 29 wards of the constituency, securing the party’s return ticket for another term.
In Asa Local Government Area, Shagaya polled 27,283 votes across all 17 wards, significantly ahead of his closest rivals.
Other contestants in Asa Local Government recorded far lower votes. Yakub Amosa Yusuf garnered 5,746 votes. Muhammed Kabir Olayiwola obtained 1,411 votes. Mopelola Risikatullahi Bashir received 623 votes.
In Ilorin West, Shagaya’s dominance was even more pronounced. The incumbent polled 50,342 votes.
His opponents in Ilorin West received minimal votes. Yakub Amasa Yusuf obtained 598 votes. Qs. Mohammed Kabir Olayiwola polled 76 votes. Mopelola Risikatullahi Abdulmalik recorded no votes.
Shagaya’s combined total across both local governments stands at 77,625 votes.

Party members have attributed Shagaya’s convincing victory to his outstanding performance since taking office as the constituency’s representative.
“His good work in the House of Representatives is why members voted for him so decisively. This victory shows that constituents are satisfied with his representation,” a party official noted.
Shagaya’s record includes legislative achievements, youth and women empowerment, development projects across Ilorin West and Asa Local Governments among others.
